2 Tim 1:7 (NKJV): For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love
and of a sound mind.
Just a look at Peter and
one could realize that he had great love for the things of God. He was willing
to give his all to the Lord, yet he feared. At a point in time, he had to deny
Jesus despite swearing to be with him till the very end. In Mathew 14 we are
told of how Peter after being invited by Jesus to join him in walking on the
lake, began to sink because he "feared".
Yet, what a great
transformation there was in the life of Peter when the Holy Spirit had come
upon him! The Bible in Acts 4 talks about how the rulers, elders and teachers
of the law were astonished by the courage of Peter and John. Commanding them
not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus, Peter and John boldly
declared: "Judge for yourselves whether it is right in God's sight to obey
you rather than God". How bold Peter had become all by the power of the
Holy Ghost!
Fear robs us of our faith
in God. In whatever you do, once you encourage fear, it cripples you and
reduces your ability to do it well. For instance, Peter's fear caused him to
sink. As a child of God, you have not received the spirit of fear. Arise boldly
and shine forth; allow not the storms and deceptions of this life to rise above
you, for your God is on your side.
